Wehrlitic and gabbroic sills in the "upper gabbros" of the Josephine ophiolite. We interpret these sills to have been emplaced at the ridge axis because hypersolidus foliations in the sills are parallel with hypersolidus foliations in the host rocks and throughout the lower crust. Futhermore, the trace element geochemistry of the clinopyroxenes indicates that at least some of these sills may be the cumulate residues of lavas erupted at the spreading axis.
