Comparative Ridgeology
Comparative Ridgeology
Peruse the three bathymetric images of the slow spreading Mid-Atlantic Ridge, intermediate spreading Juan de Fuca Ridge, and the fast spreading East Pacific Rise. Compare the morphology of the different ridges, the degree of linearity, the density of seamounts, and other physiographic features.
Develop three testable hypotheses to explain the difference in morphology of these ridges, noting that each is produced at a different spreading rate. Be sure to include elements of the asthenosphere, lithosphere and crust in your hypotheses.
Prepare your hypotheses on a one-page typed sheet for review during class on Thursday, 23 February.
