Undergraduate admission forms are submitted electronically through the University. For more information on undergraduate admissions please go here: TTU Undergraduate Admissions.

To apply for graduate study in the Department of Geosciences, you must complete two separate forms: the Geoscience Admission Form and the Graduate School Admission Form. For more information about graduate study at Texas Tech University, go to the Graduate School. Please be aware that admission to the graduate program is not possible until the following materials have been received:

SEND TO THE GRADUATE ADMISSIONS OFFICE:
      1. Graduate School Admissions application form.
      2. Official report of GRE scores (and TOEFL scores of international students)
      3. Official transcripts.

SEND TO THE DEPARTMENT OF GEOSCIENCES:
      1. Department of Geosciences Admissions application form
•Be sure to specify Geoscience or Atmospheric Science emphasis
      2. Copy of transcripts (photocopies are acceptable)
      3. GRE scores (photocopies are acceptable)
      4. Three letters of reference on the form provided. These should be from individuals familiar with your academic background. NOTE: Letters of reference should be sent directly to the Geosciences by the individual making the recommendation.

Admission to the Graduate Degree Program is granted by the Dean of the Graduate School and is contingent upon acceptance by the Department of Geosciences. Within the Department, applications are considered by the Graduate Admissions Committee as well as by other faculty members in the student's areas of interest. Applications for each academic year are considered in February and at this time decisions regarding financial assistance are made. If you wish to be considered for an assistantship or other financial aid, we urge you to complete your application by February 15.

Teaching assistantships pay $13,500-16,000 for a 9-month appointment, and involve about 8 contact hours per week. Certain fees are waived for teaching assistants and most research assistants. Research assistantships are available, as are various grants and scholarships awarded to academically outstanding students.

Applicants whose majors are in engineering and in sciences other than geology are encouraged to apply. In these cases, some leveling work is ordinarily required. The amount of leveling is determined according to the student's background and career objectives. Such students should correspond early with the Graduate Advisor to clarify any questions.

Texas Tech is committed to the principle that in no aspect of its programs shall there be differences in the treatment of persons because of race, creed, national origin, age, sex, or disability, and that equal opportunity and access to facilities shall be available to all. Persons with disabilities who may need auxiliary aids or services should contact the Geosciences Administrative Secretary (806) 742-3103 in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be made. Should you wish any additional information, you are encouraged to contact the Graduate Advisor Dr. Moira Ridley, or a member of the faculty in your area of interest.
